Tragedy strikes

So I mentioned that Sunday I would be brewing with James the ultimate in stouts: the cinnamon caramel stout. All went well until the final step, cooling the carboy off to 70F before adding the yeast. To accomplish this James filled the tub with cold water and as he was about to hoist the glass jar full of recently boiling wort into it I said ‘its probably not a good idea to put that hot glass in the cold water’. James replied ‘nonsense, we do it all the time’ and in it went. 1.4 seconds later the carboy cracked and shattered, spilling all 5 gallons of potential beer down the drain.

It was the most disappointing event in recent memory.
